Prof. Francisco A. Lomeli’ (accent on the 'i’) is professor emeritus and Distinguished Professor from the University of California, Santa Barbara, having worked 40 years in two departments: Chicana/o Studies and Spanish & Portuguese. He has also served as an administrator for a total of 15 years (department chair or Director of the Education Abroad Program in Costa Rica and Chile). He has specialized in Latin American literature in general and Chicana/o literature in particular, having explored numerous topics in both areas: literary history, theory of the novel, barrio studies, border studies, cultural semiotics, national literatures, and translation. He has published over 40 books and some 150 articles and numerous other research projects. Among his publications are a series of reference books, such as Chicano Literature: A Reference Guide (J.Martinez, F.Lomeli), Dictionary of Literary Biography: Chicano Authors (3 vols.) (F.Lomeli, C.Shirley), Historical Dictionary of U.S. Latino Literature (D.Urioste, F.Lomeli, M.J.Villasenor, Handbook of Hispanic Cultures in the United States: Literature and Art, Aztlan: Essays on the Chicano Homeland (R.Anaya, F.Lomeli, E.Lamadrid), Routledge Handbook of Chicana/o Studies (F.Lomeli, D.Segura, E.Benjamin-Labarthe), Human Rights in the Americas (M.Herrera-Sobek, F.Lomeli, L.A.Kirschner), A Critical Collection on Alejandro Morales: Forging a New Chicano Novel (M.Martinez, F.Lomeli), and Juan Felipe Herrera: Migrant, Activist, Poet Laureate (F.Lomeli, O.Gomez). He is also a Corresponding Member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language.
